    Snickerdoodle Cookie FAQs

Can I make these Snickerdoodle cookies ahead of time?

Yes! Follow the recipe until the dough is formed. Let it chill in the refrigerator once you've made the dough until you're ready to bake.

I cannot find the cream of tartar at my local supermarket. Is there something else I can use?

Yes, cream of tartar is a by-product of winemaking that is highly acidic. When it reacts with baking soda, carbon dioxide gas is released. That gas aids in the rise and fluffy texture of your snickerdoodles (and other baked goods). Because cream of tartar may be hard to come by at the grocery store, another option is to use lemon juice or vinegar. These ingredients are also acidic, so they will help the baking soda do its job.

Can I use flax eggs instead of apple sauce for this recipe?

Yes, you may replace apple sauce with flax seed eggs by combining 1 tablespoon of flaxseed meal with 3 tablespoons of water and letting it sit for about 10 minutes to thicken the consistency of eggs, then follow the recipe as directed.

Do you flatten Snickerdoodles before baking them?

Yes. Flattening the dough balls before baking them will help them spread out more in the oven. Doing so will result in a more even thickness and less chance of the cookies becoming overcooked on the edges.

Are Snickerdoodles and Sugar Cookies the same thing?

No. The difference between Snickerdoodles and sugar cookies is really just in the flavoring. Snickerdoodles have a more pronounced cinnamon flavor, while sugar cookies are just sweetened with sugar. However, they can both be made made made in the same way.
