This delicious Ginger Vodka and Orange Juice Cocktail is a spicy-sweet concoction that will have you breathing a sigh of comfort. It’s fruity and refreshing with a bit of spice that brings easy vodka drinks to the next level.

Two square cocktail glasses filled with a vodka and orange juice cocktail and ice cubes sitting in front of a pitcherful and all is against a black background.

This delicious cocktail drink has a bit of a twist and it’s all because of simple homemade syrup.

Ginger is added to the making of a simple homemade syrup whether you use crystallized and candied or fresh ginger.

Coconut sugar is also used too to add to the sweet and subtly spicy kick.

Then there’s vodka. The ideal alcoholic base to mix with orange juice and other easy vodka drinks.

The result is a refreshing orange juice and vodka cocktail that simply wants you to sit back and relax.

There are two different vodka and orange juice cocktails below. One uses fresh orange juice and the other uses store-bought orange juice.

The store-bought orange juice is already sweetened and fresh oranges are a bit calmer with their natural sweetness. Both are delicious and each is a little bit different.

The directions for both are almost identical just the ingredients are switched.

If you used crystallized candied ginger with store-bought orange juice the drink would be super sweet. You might like that though.

Here are the two separate recipes and I added both of these easy vodka drinks to the recipe card print out below.

Two round cocktail glasses filled with a vodka and orange juice cocktail and ice cubes against a charcoal background.

 Using fresh ginger

  • Simple Syrup:

  • Directions:

  • 6 ounces store-bought orange juice

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar – you can experiment with other sweeteners if you wish
  • 1/2 ounce crystallized candied ginger, sliced if the pieces are larger

  • For the Cocktail:

  • 6 ounces fresh-squeezed orange juice
  • Directions:
  • Add simple syrup, vodka and orange juice to a tumbler.
  • Stir and add ice. You can add a slice or two of crystallized ginger to the bottom of the glass too.

And there you have it. Two similar drinks but with options so that you’ll find what suits your needs the best.

You know what I like about cocktails, well, besides that they taste so good?

The glassware, ice buckets, swizzle sticks, measurers, muddlers and ALL of the paraphernalia.

There are so many cool and kitschy items that it is hard to resist.

I have a retro collection of goodies from the 50’s and everything I see in the stores today are equally desirable.

So I just keep collecting.

Center stage a vodka and orange juice cocktail filled and on a tray with fresh candied ginger.

Both of the glasses on this page are tumblers and they are short and fat. They hold an 8-ounce cocktail perfectly including ice. That makes them a 10-ounce glass tumbler.

Just the right size for a party and some delicious appetizers. And when you’re wondering what goes good with vodka here are a few of my favorites that will go perfectly.

I’d like to make this right now! Sounds so refreshing and such a beautiful looking cocktail. Love your #hashtag suggestion. 😉 Pinning this to make as a special treat when I find that coconut sugar!

    1. Ginny McMeans Avatar

Thanks Cristina! They actually have coconut sugar in almost all of the store now, usually top shelf. P.S. You can use granulated sugar too but cut down a little bit on the sugar because it is sweeter. Coconut sugar gives more of a milder maple flavor.

Wait, help…shouldn’t there be sugar in the simple syrup? They’re usually always a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of sugar and water cooked into a syrup, sometimes with the essence of whatever herb, fruit, or whatever.
This seems more like…well, ginger water.

    1. Ginny McMeans Avatar

Yikes, my sugar disappeared. I will go and find the original recipe and fix it right now. Give me a minute and thanks for the heads up.
