Air Fryer Baked Potatoes are simple and taste delicious just as they are. You can also turn them into a meal by making a baked potatoes bar. It's a chili bar and the toppings can be simple or extravagant.

The weather is getting nicer with the worst of the chilly seasons behind us. This yearly pattern seems to bring out the casual living in all of us.

Outdoors are opened up and very easy meals are prepared. Inside or out the living is easy.

So let's get to the nitty-gritty of baking potatoes in an air fryer. It is so simple and the potatoes are delicious just as they are.

If you want baked potatoes and nothing else then using an air fryer is a smart way to go. The house stays cooler which always a great idea in warmer weather.

I think I'll jump right into the instructions right here just to show you how easy these baked potatoes are to make. Four ingredients and just a very few minutes of preparation.

Four simple ingredients including potatoes and olive oil sitting on a cutting board in front of an air fryer.

    🔪 Instructions

    • Add potatoes to a large bowl.
    • Coat well with olive oil or cooking spray.
    • Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
    • Place in Air Fryer basket.
Looking down at four prepared baked potatoes in an air fryer basket with an empty bowl of oiled seasonings on the side.
    • Cook at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
    • Turn potatoes and cook for an additional 15-20 minutes or until fork-tender.
    • Serve immediately with toppings of your choice.

See what I mean? Really simple and even that little bit of oil and seasoning makes them air fry perfectly.

You can serve the baked potatoes just as you would at any dinner or lay out a spread for friends and family. It's easy to do and very inviting.

The nutritional values I have on the recipe card are for the baked potato only. The nutritional values will vary a lot with toppings.

I've listed quite a few ideas for baked potato bar toppings and you can pick and choose what you think your crew would like. I love the idea of a chili bar so that you can ladle as much as you like right in the center of the split baked potato.

A single baked potato opened and filled with chili and toppings sitting front of other veggies for sprinkling.

From there you can sprinkle on basics such as red onions and dairy-free cheddar cheese. As you can see in the photos, It's a delicious meal.

    📖 Bar Toppings

    • Russet potatoes - are the best for baking and stuffing.
    • Chili - is wonderful pour over the opened potato in lieu of dairy-free butter.
    • Onions - diced small for sprinkling
    • Dairy-free cheddar cheese - buy one that is already grated to make things simple.
    • Black olives - sliced for sprinkling.
    • For people who want to skip the chili you can add:
    • Dairy-free butter but I'm not sure who is even going to want butter with all these other great toppings.
    • Tomatoes - diced small.
    • Salsa - and a spoon for scooping.
    • Extra beans such as black beans, drained.
    • Jicama - slice in rounds and then dice small.
    • Chives - to sprinkle at the very end.

So there you have it. Pre-prepare all of the toppings beforehand and have each ingredient in its own bowl with a serving spoon or fork.

    🥗 Chili recipes

    • I'm going with a couple of chilis that I think would work great with baked potatoes.
    • First, Two-Bean Camp Chili. It's rich with lots of 'sauce'.
    • This Homemade Vegan Chili with mixed beans is one of the most popular on the blog and I think it would work really well for this baked potatoes bar.

Lay everything out with utensils and napkins and set everyone loose. They'll be mashing and ladling and scooping in no time.

    📖 Tempting air fryer recipes

    • There is a nice little group of recipes on the blog now and this Air Fryer Sticky Mushroom Rice recipe has the best flavors.

If you take a photo of your prepared baked potatoes weather they have chili in them or not I would love to see it. Follow me over on Instagram and tag me on your photo @vegan_in_the_freezer.

      Hi Ginny
Just a quick question, doing baked
potatoes in a air fryer sounds a great idea but do you have to leave out the paddle that turns the food for this?

Hi Sharon, yes. I have another one with a paddle too and it is best to just take it out. Also, with this kind of air fryer (mine is a Tfal) the hottest spots are the top left and bottom right. So when you flip the potatoes over, near the end of air frying, I would also switch the top left potato with the top right - and the bottom left with the bottom right.

Hello, I wanted to add to how fast and yummy these baked potatoes, I too the air fryer out and made them on the deck.
Crispy on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside. I just got this recipe via email - it is HOT outside - so took the Philips AF outside and with in 45 minutes - we had a real treat!
Thank you - take the AF outside on a HOT day and enjoy some great potatoes, if it is not raining!
